Richard Lee "Buck" Cartiere
is a long-time independent
professional journalist.

Mr. Cartiere has covered the U.S. wine industry from a business perspective full-time for the last 15 years, and is regularly quoted by the news media. He has broken major wine market news stories including pre-announcements of the initial public offerings of both Robert Mondavi Corp. and Beringer Wine Estates and the death of Ernest Gallo, when he managed to post his story to his subscribers 14 minutes before it was carried by his former employer, The AP.

Mr. Cartiere serves as both publisher and editor of Wine Market Report, based in the Napa Valley. His prior decade and a half in journalism included time at the San Francisco bureau of The Associated Press (where his night desk supervisor role led to an unenviable role as the key AP reporter on the first night of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake right at the start of that year's World Series at nearby then-Candlestick Park) and two different stints at the New York Times Regional Newspapers Group, the last as an assistant business editor.

Mr. Cartiere co-founded Wine Business Monthly, the largest wine trade business magazine in North America, as well as www.winebiz.com, the industry's first wine trade website. Since 1992 he has edited his leading wine trade newsletter in varying formats and now is its sole owner. WMR is now the leading U.S. source of real-time news, data and information about the U.S. wine business.

Mr. Cartiere has been a speaker at his own conferences (from London-held WineEvolution to the Nap-based Wine and Politics Annual Seminar to the San Francisco-organized Wine Marketing Conference to the the Grape Crush Forums) and at third-party seminars and conferences around the world, including \Rabobank's De La Tierra de la Mesa in Santiago, Chile, Australia's Wine Marketing Outlook Conference and various seminars at Vinexpo, Vinitaly and the London International Wine Trade Fair.

Mr. Cartiere lives in the Russian River Valley wine country (known for his favorite wine, Pinot Noir!) and spends much of his time sniffing out the latest trends with his trusted newshound--Jack Junior, a frequent luncheon companion at wine country eateries with outdoor patios!
